Diószeg Public Garden
rehabilitation plan, Budapest, 2011

The public garden (current state of 2011)
The public garden is located at the corner of Diószeg Street and Ferenc Dávid street. In the area
there is currently a low-equipped, degraded playground and two sports grounds. The pavement
in several places fragmented, the concrete floor coverings are in many places incomplete,
fragmented, the grass grids somewhat sunken, the corners of the playground's rubber housing
increased. The old double alley gives the crankshaft of the garden.
Agenda
I planned a new spatial structure that based on the preservation of the old trees an the current structure of the garden. The new spatial structure is structurally four parts with three function. On the left side of the crankshaft are the recreation function (playground and sport ground) on the right side are rest functions.
The planned condition
The resting garden
I divided this side two parts. On the upper part placed a curved walkway in the centre with
grass and perennial plants.
On the lower part placed a resting park with promenade, in the centre with reflecting
ornamental pool and statue.
Planting plan
I would complete the old alley with new trees (Fraxinus ornus 'Mecsek') which are low growth
and have a spherical crown. I would create a new shrubs line with Viburnum opulus and Vitex
agnus-castus, which are decorate with their leaves and blooming.
The shrubs line located on the left side of the axis and separate the playground and
the sports ground. On the deep shadows part of the park placed a shade-tolerant plants.
Material uses
A most of place I would use a limestone slabs with square shape that reminding of the
original concrete slabs of the garden. The sports ground would cover with new asphalt cover
and on the playground would be a new impact damping cover.
The accessories would be made of metal and wood that are looking elegant and simple.
In this way they are fitting in the garden view.
Renewal of Vörösmarty Square, stylization
Budapest, 2011

The planned condition
For stylization I have chosen the language of the historicism. I chose the Gerbeaud House - that
built in classicist style by József Hild - for the axis of the composition. Visitors may arrive to the
square from two directions: from the Váci Street and the Deák Ferenc Street. Entering from the Váci
Street can be seen the square directly by the Gerbeaud House. From the Deák Ferenc Street the
arrivals involuntarily turns towards the Gerbeaud House and catching their attention.
I planned the new crankshaft of the square that based on the facade of the Gerbeaud House.
I increased the green surfaces and applied parterrs from the Baroque garden architecture.
The statue of Vörösmarty Mihály remains dominated the centre of the square are.
The internal units are stylized and display the parterrs with a small cube insertion.
Stylization
- or renewal with the need for stylistic fitting to the new environment. Where previously wasn't
justified or impossible to produce new quality.
Agenda
Since the square has been formed over several centuries with different architectural styles and has
gained its ultimate form today. So I thought that the solution to the task would be to capture the
language of the historicism. I have integrated the elements of the selected era into today's
solutions and stylized them.
The edges of grassy parterrs are highlighted and made of limestone.
I replaced the old platan trees with young specimens to keep the original character of the
space.
I planned a minor axis that based on the Oroszlános kút. The three parterrs that it is located
here are stylize the grassy parterrs with a small cube insertion.
This three parterrs are bordered by eight spherical-crowned trees. There were still enough space
left for the former functions of the square - the Christmas Fair and the Festive Book Week events.
However, green space has increased and more possibilities comes to rest.
